Montgomery County Young Democrats Meeting
Montgomery County Young Democrats Meeting
December 17, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Germantown Library, 19840 Century Blvd, Germantown, MD 20874, USA
We will be electing a couple of new Executive Board members and talking about the upcoming 2025 Maryland legislative session.
Below are our candidates for the Montgomery County Young Democrats Executive Board positions.
Carlos Hernandez Tavares is an undergraduate student attending Williams College and majoring in mathematics and political science. He was born in Venezuela but grew up in Montgomery County, and is excited to be part of the Young Democrats, to better connect our increasingly diverse young community to Democratic politics. The issues currently being debated in the County, from housing affordability to new voting systems, impact young Marylanders the most. In his free time, he enjoys practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, reading novels, and going out with his friends.
Milan van Dam is a passionate young Democrat dedicated to political advocacy and community engagement. He is part of the MCPS SMOB (Student Member of the Board) Advisory Council, where he currently serves on the leadership team. He has fought for issues from improving school safety measures to combatting discrimination and promoting budget reform while helping to advance the SMOB’s agenda. As Chair of the First-Generation Caucus of the High School Democrats of America (HSDA), he hosted voter outreach events featuring political candidates and campaign managers, managed a strong communications team, and drove campaign efforts to address issues important to young people, first-generation, and immigrant communities. Milan also serves on the National and Diversity Committees of HSDA and volunteers for several political and educational organizations. His commitment to social justice and fair representation drives him to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the Montgomery County Young Democrats with a strong desire to ensure that all voices are represented. With connections and experience with political organizations, candidates, and campaigns, he is excited to contribute to MCYD’s mission and make a difference, helping to deliver victories for Democrats in 2025, the midterms, and beyond.
